Video as cover on Facebook banners

Facebook has changed their focus from photos to videos as their top priority. Videos are more eye-catching and grabs the attention of the users.

It is possible to upload a video as your cover photo – both on your event page and on your own page. Unfortunately, very few people use this function. It’s super easy and gives the company and the events on Facebook a (literally) audiovisual boost.

 

Take notice of the right dimensions

The video must be between 20 and 90 seconds long (Facebook’s rules).

The video resolution must be 1280x720p pixels (or 1920x1080p), and in HD quality – for optimal results on the PC screen (on mobile devices a thumbnail image is displayed).

Part of the height of your video is being cropped, so keep important video content or images or text centralized so it won’t be cut off.

 

How to upload the video as a banner

Once your video is ready, it’s time to add it. The function is not yet available via Facebook’s mobile app, so you must be logged in via your browser on your computer.

When you are on the Facebook page, click “Change Cover Photo” and select “Upload Image / Video” from the drop-down menu. Then select the video file to upload it to your page. It may take a few minutes for Facebook to post code after upload.

 

Select “Change cover image” at the top left corner of your existing cover.

 

Once your video is uploaded, place it so that the part you intended to be in the center is at the center. You can drag up / down and release to achieve this. When you’re done, click Next.

Before you publish, choose a thumbnail! You can click the arrows to the right and left of the cover photo frame to choose from a selection of thumbnails from the video. Once you have selected a cover image, click Publish and you have released your first cover video.
