Were you ever disappointed by the choice of your colours in your knitting project?

Did you ever fall in love with a skein of yarn that, when turned into knitting, did not look so nice as you expected?

This might be the workshop for you.

During his stay in Paris Vincent Van Gogh owned a box filled with 16 skeins of two and three coloured yarns. With these yarns he decided what colour to use in his
paintings.

During this 3-hour workshop we will explore the possibilities of this yarn box and how you can benefit from it for your own colour choices in your knitting projects. There will be over 300 colours of yarn to pick from and you will start preparing and knitting one colour swatch. While knitting different colour theories will be discussed.

This workshop will learn how to use van Goghs colorwork while making your own colour choices.

Homework:
Bring a printed picture of your favourite painting of Van Gogh
Knitting needles size 2,5 mm.

Level of knitting:
This class is meant for every level of knitting. It is all about colour study. You need to know the very basics of knitting: Cast on, bind off, knit and purl. As long as you know the basics, in this class you are good to go.

Coffee/tea and a small snack are included in the price.

Language: English and/or Dutch.

Teacher: Loret Karman, The Netherlands
My name is Loret Karman, and I am head of knitting academy De Amsterdamse Steek, which teaches knitting and dyeing at all levels. Transferring subject knowledge and motivating students to rise above themselves in their work is as important to me as continuing to develop my own skills in this field. That I refer to the school as an academy shows my ambition: hand knitting and dyeing on an academic level. Studying, researching, comparing, describing and naming those on whose shoulders we stand is important to me.

Right now, I am involved, by both designers and museums, in researching and implementing projects that involve dyeing small amounts and knitting one-off pieces.
