"Is there any meaning in coincidence? That's what I wanted this record to be about. It's a grand design, I'm not sure if it comes off or not.” (Sting interviewed by In The Studio)

Classic Album Sundays: POLICE ‘Synchronicity’ (A&M, 1983) – writer and editor Rob Young in conversation with CAS host Kent Horne // Thursday, May 7th // Boksen (Kulturhuset)

7.00pm album talk

8.30pm Q&A with the audience

"Is there any meaning in coincidence? That's what I wanted this record to be about. It's a grand design, I'm not sure if it comes off or not.” (Sting interviewed by In The Studio)

With The Police’s fifth studio release, Sting shook us out of this material, deterministic world and plunged into psychologist Carl Jung's theory of synchronicity, suggesting that coincidences may be the product of an unseen order in the universe.

With their own unique dynamic, the trio of Stewart Copeland, Andy Summers and Gordon "Sting" Sumner reached their peak with an exceptionally tight, energetic and relentless vibe. Synchronicity turned out to be the end of the journey for ‘The Biggest Band in the World’ at the time, but this landmark LP helped establish The Police as one of the greatest bands of all time.

Together with local CAS host Kent Horne, author and editor Rob Young tells the stories behind the songs (including the perfectly constructed single ‘Every Breath You Take’) and the troubled recording of Synchronicity on the Caribbean island of Montserrat. Then we can lean back, turn up the volume and listen to Synchronicity from beginning to end on a world class audiophile sound system.
