Etenesh Wassie is an adventurer with an extraordinary personality. She discovered her singing talent at a very young age and began her career at 17 in the early 1990s in Addis Ababa, performing in azmaribèts—cabarets that carry on the singing tradition of improvisations rich in double entendres. In Ethiopia, the azmari tradition is deeply rooted and an integral part of daily life. Etenesh has made a name for herself in this tradition with her three-piece costumes, her humor, and her sharp wit, earning a unique place in this scene. Invited by several musicians from Addis Ababa, she collaborates both on stage and on recordings, increasingly drawing attention from the Ethiopian music scene.
She was discovered by Francis Falceto, director of the Éthiopiques record label, who invited her to join several European tours and record albums. Her music then caught the attention of French musicians, who invited her in 2007 to create a new show with them. This marked the beginning of a new chapter for Etenesh as she began to develop an international career.
From 2007 to 2010, she toured France and Europe with Le Tigre des Platanes, then performed as a duo or trio with Mathieu Sourisseau. In 2024, she worked on a new parallel duo project with Paolo Angeli. In 2025, she was granted asylum in France and embarked on new adventures : solo and also with Myriam Pellicane, the trio [NA], Ronan Le Gouriérec, Chloé Cailleton, Séb Barrier, and Endris Hassen.

Jonah Rapino is a Chicago-based composer, multi-instrumentalist, and electric violinist whose work spans experimental music, film scoring, Ethiopian-inspired dance music, and live cinema performance. He is a founding member of the acclaimed Ethiopian funk ensemble Debo Band as well as the Devil Music Ensemble, an internationally touring group that composes and performs original scores for silent films throughout North America and Europe.
As a composer, Rapino has created music for the documentaries Alice, Darkon, New World Order, and Journey to Planet X. Under his solo project, Berbere Superstar, he reimagines traditional Ethiopian recordings through sampling, live electronics, electric violin, and dance-floor rhythms. The project has toured extensively, with performances throughout China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Japan, Thailand, Ethiopia, Tanzania and the United States.
Rapino is currently resurrecting the Berbere Superstar project with a new live performance format that combines live sampling of obscure Jamaican dancehall vinyl, Algerian folk music 45s, with drum machines, looping, and electric violin into immersive, genre-defying performances.
Beyond live music and composing, Rapino is a founding member of Chicago's Lit Lawn Collective, co-presenters of the Little Lawndale in the Park festival in Douglass Park. He is also the recipient of a Chicago Neighborhood Opportunity Fund grant supporting the complete renovation and transformation of his DIY art and music space called Wolf Village, into a dedicated gallery and performance venue currently under renovation and slated to re-open in 2027.
Mitmitta creates one-of-a-kind sets ranging from sophisticated jazz to thumping sounds of mystical and up-tempo music from Ethiopia, Eritrea, Sudan, South Sudan, Djibouti, Tanzania & Somalia. Deeply hypnotized by East African sounds from vinyl and audiotapes, Mitmitta is well recognized as a resource and connoisseur of Ethiopian, Eritrean & Sudanese Jazz, Soul, Funk & Traditional music. He has re-issued music from the region under the label Mitmitta Muzika along with archiving his extensive cassette collection.
