Satie in a New Light – A Jazz Concert Inspired by the Spirit of Erik Satie

Erik Satie was the composer who refused to follow the rules—a musical mystic and a kindred spirit of the absurdists. Blending wit with melancholy, he created a musical universe entirely his own, decades ahead of its time. Now, his music is reimagined in an intimate chamber jazz setting, where pianist Erika Hammarberg and trumpeter Erik Palmberg invite audiences to experience a concert filled with heartfelt musicianship and unexpected twists.

In this program, the duo dresses Satie's music in the colors of jazz. The result is distinctive, beautiful, and at times delightfully irreverent—very much in keeping with Satie's own spirit. Using his poetic and eccentric music as a point of departure, the audience encounters his many personas: the composer, the enigmatic velvet gentleman, the suited Dadaist, and the sharp-witted bureaucrat.

Erika Hammarberg is an acclaimed pianist and arranger, and the founder of the Elaria Orchestra. She has collaborated with ensembles including the Bohuslän Big Band and the Norrbotten Big Band, while also working as a

pianist in a wide range of musical settings.

In recent years, jazz trumpeter Erik Palmberg has gained widespread recognition. His two most recent albums both won the readers' poll for the prestigious Gyllene Skivan (Golden Record Award) and he his a sought after musician in many jazz settings.
